The Strata Round is the circular dining table of the Strata collection — a travertine sintered stone top wrapped in solid walnut, carried by a single sculptural pedestal column in FAS-grade North American black walnut. It seats four comfortably at 110cm, six at 130cm, and does so without legs interrupting the seating positions or stretchers catching on chairs. Everyone pulls up equally. Everyone has the same view across the table.

The round format, the pedestal base, and the walnut-wrapped edge together make a piece that is architecturally considered from every angle — because with a round table, every angle is the front.

The Top: Travertine Sintered Stone, Walnut-Wrapped Edge

The tabletop surface is travertine sintered stone — the same warm, linearly veined material used across the Strata collection. At 28mm, the top has real visual mass and structural rigidity. It is non-porous, heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, and stain-proof: the correct specification for a dining surface that will be used for every meal, every day.

The edge is where the Strata Round separates itself from the standard market approach. Most sintered stone tables use a stacked edge profile — the stone is simply cut and the raw edge is exposed, which is both visually abrupt and physically uncomfortable against the forearm during a long meal. The Strata Round wraps the full perimeter of the stone top in solid walnut — a continuous band of FAS-grade black walnut that covers the stone edge entirely, rounds the profile, and introduces the warmth and softness of wood exactly where the body makes contact with the table.

It is a detail that takes significantly more craft to execute than a plain cut edge. It is also the detail you feel every time you sit down.

The Support System: Grid Frame + Steel Plate

Beneath the stone top, a structural grid frame in 4cm solid walnut — a hashtag configuration — distributes the load of the stone across the full diameter rather than concentrating it at the pedestal connection point. Steel plate brackets connect this frame to the top of the pedestal column, providing the rigid mechanical connection between the stone assembly and the walnut base.

The dual-layer construction — sintered stone face over structural walnut substrate, supported by a solid walnut grid frame reinforced with steel — means the top will not flex, crack, or separate under normal dining loads regardless of where weight is applied across the surface.

The Base: Sculptural Walnut Pedestal

The pedestal is a single tapered column in FAS-grade North American black walnut — wider at the base (51cm diameter) than at the top, flaring outward toward the floor in a form that is simultaneously structural and sculptural. It is the most visually striking element of the piece and the one that makes the Strata Round immediately recognisable in a room.

The flared pedestal form solves a problem that four-leg round tables never fully resolve: leg clearance. With a single central column, every seat position around the table has identical, unobstructed leg room. There are no corner legs to avoid, no stretchers to navigate, and no asymmetry in how different seats feel. The table seats people — not configurations of people.

The walnut of the pedestal is finished with the same three-stage system as the walnut edge banding: primer, protective topcoat, and three layers of natural plant-based wax oil. The result is a base that is sealed against moisture and contact while retaining the natural warmth, depth, and grain character of the walnut at its most tactile.

Three-Stage Finish: 2 + 1 System

The walnut components — pedestal and edge banding — are finished through a three-stage process developed after extensive testing: one primer coat for base protection and adhesion, one topcoat for waterproofing and wear resistance, and three coats of natural plant-based wax oil for warmth and nourishment of the wood grain.

The 2+1 system was chosen specifically to resolve the two weaknesses of conventional finishing approaches: standard lacquer alone sits on top of the wood and can look plastic; pure wax oil alone requires regular reapplication and provides insufficient moisture protection in Singapore's humid climate. The combined system seals and protects with the lacquer layers, then enriches and nourishes with the wax oil — achieving both durability and the living warmth that makes walnut worth choosing in the first place.

It is also low in VOCs and safe for homes with children.

Round Table, Singapore Context

Round dining tables work particularly well in Singapore's HDB and condo dining rooms for two practical reasons. First, they eliminate the dead corners of a rectangular table — every centimetre of a round table's perimeter is usable seating, with no chair awkwardly positioned at a corner. Second, they scale more gracefully in square dining rooms, which are more common in Singapore residential layouts than the long rectangular rooms that rectangular tables are designed for.

At 110cm, the Strata Round seats four with generous elbow room. At 130cm, it seats six for everyday dining and can accommodate additional chairs for occasional entertaining. Neither size requires a large room — both work in a standard HDB or condo dining space.

Why Round Over Rectangular

The Strata rectangular dining table seats more people across a longer wall and works better in open-plan spaces where the table needs to read as directional.
