Senu Desk - Solid Walnut Writing Desk
A desk that makes you want to sit down and do the work.

The Senu Desk is a compact solid walnut writing desk designed for the Singapore home — the study corner, the bedroom alcove, the living room wall that could be something more useful. At 120cm wide and 60cm deep, it fits where a dining table cannot, and it does so without looking like a compromise.

FAS-grade North American black walnut across the top, legs, and apron. Two full-width drawers in elm with small brass pulls. Tapered legs connected by a full stretcher system. Dabao clear lacquer finish. It is a straightforward brief executed without shortcuts — a desk that rewards the daily ritual of sitting down to work.

The Top: Wide, Clear, Uninterrupted

The 120 × 60cm working surface is solid walnut — wide enough for a laptop, a notebook, a lamp, and a coffee without feeling crowded, and deep enough to push the screen back to a comfortable viewing distance. The surface is finished with Dabao clear lacquer, providing protection against the daily contact a working surface takes — moisture from a mug, the drag of a mouse, occasional ink or oil — without adding visible texture or reducing the natural warmth of the walnut grain beneath.

There are no cable grommets, no integrated charging ports, no features that will feel dated in three years. The top is a clean, considered working surface and nothing more.

Two Drawers, Brass Pulls

Directly beneath the tabletop, two side-by-side drawers run the full usable width of the desk. The symmetrical layout keeps the drawer volume balanced and the visual weight of the apron consistent from either side.

The pulls are small cylindrical brass — warm, tactile, and proportioned to the drawer face without dominating it. Brass against walnut is a material pairing with a long history in quality furniture: the warm metal tone draws out the red-brown depth of the walnut grain and introduces a quiet luxury note that distinguishes the Senu Desk from plain utility alternatives.

Drawer boxes are elm — the same stable secondary hardwood used across the Senu collection. Drawer bases are plywood, chosen for its superior flatness and resistance to warping over solid wood in a horizontal panel application. The drawers run on solid wood tracks that improve with use, growing smoother and quieter with every open and close.

Tapered Legs, Full Stretcher System

The four legs taper from a squared upper section to a narrower foot — a mid-century form that gives the desk visual lightness without reducing structural stability. They are solid walnut, turned to match the grain direction of the tabletop and apron, and finished consistently across the whole piece.

The legs are connected by a full stretcher system: a front stretcher bar joining the two front legs, a rear stretcher joining the two back legs, and side stretchers completing the frame. This is a four-point rigid base that prevents the racking and wobble that develops in stretcher-free desks with daily use — particularly relevant for a desk where the user leans, pushes back, and pulls forward repeatedly throughout the day.

It also means the desk can be moved — picked up, repositioned, carried — without the joint stress that affects lighter-built alternatives.

Compact by Design, Not by Compromise

At 120cm, the Senu Desk is sized for Singapore's typical study contexts — a bedroom study area, a dedicated study room in an HDB or condo, or a home office corner in an open-plan living space. It is not a large executive desk. It is a desk designed to do what one person needs a desk to do: provide a clean, well-built working surface with enough storage for the things that live beside a computer.

The 60cm depth is the correct specification for a home desk used with a laptop. A deeper desk pushes the wall further away and the screen further back; a shallower desk reduces the usable working area below what a comfortable keyboard-and-trackpad layout requires. 60cm is the answer to both problems.

The Senu Collection

The Senu Desk sits within the Senu family — Born in Colour's Solid Walnut storage and study pieces. It shares FAS-grade North American black walnut, elm secondary construction, Dabao clear lacquer finish, and solid wood drawer runners with the Senu chest of drawers, Senu Low TV console, and Senu Wide TV console. Pieces that are built the same way, look right together, and work in every room they enter.

The Senu Desk pairs naturally with the Flux dining chairs, which share the walnut frame and upholstered seat language — bringing a consistent material palette from the dining space into the study. It also works alongside the Senu chest of drawers in a bedroom study configuration, extending the Senu collection's storage capacity into a complete room setup.
